Truckee police have arrested a 55-year-old Truckee man on Tuesday for allegedly beating his 74-year-old mother the previous weekend.
Truckee police arrested Terry Gunder of Truckee on suspicion of felony elder abuse and making death threats, according to a department news release.
According to police, Gunder was the paid caretaker for his mother.
“The woman had been injured in this assault and was taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital,” Sgt. Dan Johnston stated in the release. She was later released.
Nevada County Adult Protective Services, Nevada County Mental Health, and Tahoe Women’s Services assisted police officials in the investigation, and are following up on the case.
“Every agency has an area of service they can provide, as well as offer information to complete the case,” Truckee Police Lt. Harwood Mitchell said in a phone interview Friday.
Nevada County Adult Protective Services would not comment on the specific case, but said they typically assist with the safety and care of suspected abuse victims.
“Abuse within a family is traumatic,” said Program Manager Mark Nagafuchi of Adult Services. “We make sure that [the victims] have the resources necessary, such as moving to a safe place.”
A Nevada County judge authorized an emergency protection order, but the victim has not initiated a restraining order through the court, Lt. Mitchell said. Gunder was booked into Nevada County Jail and released on bail of $50,000.
