Elderly Woman Dies, Caregivers Arrested

April 13, 2007 RIVERSIDE, Calif. A married couple who worked as caregivers for a 70-year-old disabled woman were arrested in connection with the woman's death, Riverside police reported Friday.

Rebecca Marie Perez-Welch, 35, and her husband, Timothy Welch, 38, were arrested Thursday afternoon, according to Riverside police.

Perez-Welch was arrested on suspicion of murder and her husband was booked for alleged elder abuse, said Riverside police Sgt. Pat Watters.

"Though she was in poor health, suspicions regarding her cause of death were raised as members of the household were interviewed," police said.
