Area Woman Accused of Ripping off her Mother

Lebanon, PABy BRAD RHEN Staff Writer Lebanon Daily News

A 42-year-old Berks County woman was charged this week with taking more than $100,000 of her mother’s money for her own use.

Michelle Yoter, 1910 Schubert Road, Bethel, was charged Monday with theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and misapplication of entrusted property after an investigation by Lebanon County’s Elder Abuse Unit.

Harman said she was then kept at Yoter’s home in Bethel and was left alone for days at a time with very little to eat, without medication and without use of a phone, the complaint said.

Only after Harman fell and broke her arm and was taken to a hospital was she able to have contact with other family members and able to be removed from Yoter’s control, according to the complaint.

The Elder Abuse Unit investigates crimes against people over 60, including physical abuse and financial exploitation.

“We take all crimes seriously, but we pay particular attention to crimes against the elderly because they are sometimes incapable of defending themselves,” said Detective Michael Dipalo, who investigated the case.

Lucky for the citizens of Lebanon, PA it is encouraging that you have authorities that take financial exploitation and elder financial abuse seriously, unfortunately many cities across the Globe don`t have Elder Abuse Units neither do we have authorities that take Elder Exploitation Abuse seriously. It is for those vulnerable citizens that are left out to their own luck that we we speak out for.
