West Coast Takes the Initiative On Taking The Fight to Elder Abuse

The Times series "Theft of the Elder Nation" was groundbreaking. The series focused on several issues impacting our aging population. As a Senior Assembly member for the California Senior Legislature (CSL), I can report that several of the issues identified in this series are being introduced to our state legislators.
One key issue was the topic of one of the series articles.

Undue influence is not included in the state's Penal Code. A legislative proposal is in the process of being prepared to address this issue.

Another has to do with the creation of an elder abuse offender registry, modeled after Megan's Law, where anyone convicted of any form of abuse against an elder would be required to register, enabling the public to have access to information via the Internet.
