Brooke Astor , Grand Dame of New York Dies at 105

Brooke Astor's death Tuesday came amid a legal maelstrom that has fixated New Yorkers since charges of elder abuse were lobbed at her only son, Anthony Marshall, last year.
Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau has for nearly a year been investigating some of Marshall's transfers of money and property to himself while his mother allegedly was living in poorly maintained quarters in ill health.
Prosecutors over the past few months began to assemble a grand jury to look into the legality of the transfers and amendments to Astor's will, according to The New York Times.
